Inspired by ‘the Hunters in the Snow’ (1565) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder

gleefully we children play,

though unbeknownst may come some day,

when we are forced to go astray,

out into the woods.

about the trees such sharp and frigid air,

with winter wind come exceeding despair,

though we stand much unaware,

we venture on and on,

what woods are these we are forced to roam,

through the ice and snow,

we fondly find food to fix our fair feast,

when suddenly…

a rustle of the leaves -

a crunching of the snow -

out bounds the beast betwixt the branches!

A fine meal indeed
